Student Service Groups
Habitat for Humanity
The Coe College Habitat for Humanity Chapter is a diverse group of student leaders who strive to live out Habitat for Humanity’s global mission on campus and in other communities. Our chapter meets weekly to recruit volunteers, create education sessions, and advocate to the community. We serve in the community by volunteering at house builds and ReStore as well as attending home dedications. Some members of our chapter also travel annually across the country for Collegiate Challenges over Spring Break. At the beginning of every school year we hold one of our largest fundraising and education events called Shack-A-Thon. This event is when Coe students will be present on our Library Quad for 24 hours to raise awareness about inadequate housing in the world and we donate the funds to the Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity. Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon
The purpose of Cedar Rapids Dance Marathon is to raise money for University of Iowa Children’s Hospital through Children’s Miracle Network. They money raised each year goes directly to local children with illnesses and their families. The fundraising culminates with a Big Event in April where the families share their stories and students from Coe, Mt. Mercy, and Kirkwood stand together for 12 hours for the kids.
The Blue Zones Project® Group is a health and wellness organization sponsored by Healthways. Coe’s Blue Zones group wants to make the healthy choice the easy choice by transforming the environment into a healthy, friendly environment. They promote these changes in the environment so daily life of an individual becomes a healthy lifestyle, by staying active by walking daily, being healthy by eating more greens & leaves, and developing relationships by participating in community service. Their goal is to help improve the health of any individual. So everyone can live longer, feel better, be happier. Learn more about the Blue Zones project by clicking here.
